2006 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Dürnsteiner Kellerberg
Benchmark Gruner Veltliner. This has all the white pepper, snap pea & mineral elements you could want, supplemented by a warm white peach note that adds richness and depth beyond what should be capable of coming from a grape. Rich on the palate & dry on the finish. My only comment would be to drink it soon - don't let the fruit fade & risk the 14.5% alcohol coming out. It hasn't yet, but why take the chance. It's too good to leave it alone anyway.

By the way, in a stunning development, this wine worked wonders with cajun gumbo! Bonus points!
