Advice - Ch de la Jaubertie 2004 "Mirabelle" Red

by MattThr » Sat Dec 27, 2008 10:59 am

Someone gave me a bottle of this for Christmas. Checking in my latest wine guide it suggests that the owner of this Bergerac Chateau produces extremely good wine, not unlike Haut-Medoc, but I was hoping to get a little more information especially ...

1) Is this the first wine of the Chateau?
2) Is it worth cellaring, or should I drink it now? If it is worth storing, what sort of age ought I to be waiting for?

We've only had the Jaubertie white available here - which is a well made wine in its bargain range. I would imagine that the red should be at least very competently made from this Château, but have no idea about drinking windows.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Jaubertie is owned by an English family, who sold the Ryman stationery chain and bought a wine château in Bergerac with the money.

The son (who famously fell out with his father, but I think they've made up again) is a flying winemaker with experience in Australia.
This helped him to make fresh, fruity wines that have a good reputation, especially in the UK, for obvious reasons.

The "Mirabelle" is a new wave sort of wine, a Bergerac on steroids. It's the sort of wine I think is best enjoyed on the young side.

Best regards,
Alex

Great, thanks for the information. Tasting note will follow when I've tried it.
