Gift Wines

by Sam Platt » Fri Dec 26, 2008 4:28 pm

My family took great care of me in the wine department this year. The wines that I received as Christmas gifts are:

2006 JJ Prum Riesling Auslese MSR Graacher Himmelreich
2005 Chateau Clerc Milon
2005 Clos Rene Pomerol
2005 Chateau Guiraud Sauternes
2005 Casa Lapostolle Apalta Colchagua Valley
2005 Domaine du Vieux Telegraph La Crau
2005 Quinta Do Crasto Douro Reserva Old Vines

Did anyone else receive wine as a gift?

Not wine, but I did receive an 8-bottle cooler.

Very nice, Randy. Is it for your office?

I'm not Randy, but no, it's not for my office. I found a corner of the dining room where it will fit. I'll use it for wines that I bring up from the cellar and will have in my que.

My apologies "Howie". I was talking with my son and his friend "Randy" while I typed the message, and somehow incorporated his name into my response.

This one instantly brought out the wine snob in me: Newman's Own "Chardonnay." The quotes are theirs, not mine. Made by Rebel Wines, which turns out to really be The Three Thieves - one of them being Joel Gott. They seem to be marketing to the Common Man and Nascar set, and some of their other wines use labels inspired by Hatch Show Print in Nashville. Perhaps the wines are OK. Pasta Sauce, salad dressing, why not wine??

Not many wines this year, though Betsy expanded my Schott Zweisel Burg stems. Our dinner guests did bring some host gifts ('04 Muga Reserva, '05 Ch. Brown, a Selaks icewine).

My sister came in from Maine after Christmas and we exchanged gifts last night. She gave me 2 bottles of 2005 Louis M. Martini Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. I may want to cellar these for a few years.

Linda,

I'm a big fan of the Kim Crawford SB. Haven't got around to trying the '08 version yet.

This is my first bottle of the '08, so I'm looking forward to it. I still have 2 bottles of the '06 which I loved. I didn't think as much of the '07.
