WTN: 1990 Guigal Cote-Rotie "La Mouline"

One of the famous "La-La"s, and from a fine vintage. And this bottle lived up to its reputation.

The aroma was very forthcoming, with the dark fruits one expects from mature Northern Rhone syrah, along with vanilla aromas from oak. A lot of complex things going on here. On the palate, the wine, at 18 years of age, still exhibits explosive fruit, combined with mature palate sensations. Acidity is perceptible but not obtrusive. Excellent balance. Soft, fully resolved tannins. One can get lost in this wine. A fine, aromatic finish.

If I have to pick nits and find a fault with this wine, there's a bit more oak than I would like to see. But this wine can carry it, and in my book it is a great wine.

Triple Curly.

Sounds like a great wine, Paul. I've yet to drink a mature LaLaLa. Hope to be able to do it one day.

How has the weather been over there lately? Had any chance to bring out your telescope?

Cheers, Anders
