2000 Jean-Michel Guillon Morey St. Denis 1er Cru 13.5%
Notable color, a burnished transparent ruby, like soaked orange pekoe in a transparent cup. Lovely high-toned cherry aroma with cloves and an iodine/saline note. As it evolves in the glass, leather and funk aromas emerge. Delicious mouthfeel, well-integrated alcohol, medium bodyweight, excellent sweet/acid balance, delicate but assertive structure. Sigh. Truly a delight, and an eloquent reminder of why such Burgundy is, for me at least, primus inter pares.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.
