Not sure, but I think I am going to start calling them "Muscle Plaques."

I have a small collection as well. Do you have the one from the 1982 Alain Robert for the Pope's visit to Reims in the early '80s? That's the most unusual one in my collection.

no, i don't have that. didn't even know about it. i know that some of them are worth a lot of money - esp. the very old pull-tab pol roger 187's and the vintage pol rogers from very old and great vintages. i need to go shopping in reims again. while i can't collect them all for obvious reasons; i would like to have at least a complete set of the generic village ones - you know, the ones that just say 'ambonnay' or 'bouzy' or whatever. i have quite a few; but...... then i could put all the grand cru together, then premier cru, and other. that , i think is doable.

They are actually called a “placomusophile”. (I think my spelling is right?)

Yes, you are right with the spelling but the term refers to David who is a placomusophile because he collects plaques de muselets (and no, you don't pronounce the 't' unless perhaps you are a French southerner when you might!).

Collecting these Champagne capsules is a huge thing in France - you see them on sale at all the jumble sales/boot sales/yard sales not to mention in minor antique shops and there are tons of books on them. So I did a google search in French - and this page (only in French) shows you definitions for everything. I even found an active forum about it (only in French again!).

Well, some of us always knew the French (and some Francophiles?) were very sad.

So now the question is - how many different colors capsules are there for Veuve Cliquot (referring to the color band around the edge). I think I have 5.

Very cool - but they do not have that odd Alain Robert cap I was talking about. Neat - they have over 5,000 but I have one they don't. It's like finding the stamp with the upside down airplane but without the financial payoff.

David,

The final ts isn't pronounced; the last syllable should be pronounced somewhere between leh and lay. Like Jaboulet, or Monet, or Le Creuset.

Moët, or Jouët, though, are different (from another language), and the final t is pronounced in both.

That's my story, anyway, and I'm sticking to it.
