René Geoffroy Volupté Brut 1er Cru 2004I remember reading on Peter Liem's blog that he thinks Geoffroy's '04s are great, so I was happy to notice this bottle lying around.
In most years this is a Chardonnay dominant blend, but in 2004 it was 100% Chardonnay. Liem also mentions that Geoffroy's wines are full of fruit - that may be so, but this certainly isn't what is usually understood by fruit forward.
A wonderful white scent: flowers and minerals and citrus. It is classic Bl de Bl in its aromas and has an arresting purity of fruit. Good body, wonderful grip, high acidity and tastes like it has low dosage though apparently it is 10g/l - but I guess lack of malo helps it retain such wonderful crispness and delineation (so much that in fact that I have to wonder why the wine has the name "Volupté"?) despite such strong fruit. I love it. It is primary and I think it should age beautifully, but I haven't tasted any older Geoffroys - do they age as well as I might imagine from this bottle?

I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.
