Tonight we were celebrating the onset of our Thansgiving vacation and the completion of Jean's NSF proposal, so I made yet another paella and opened (on request) the oldest "zin" in our cellar:
'95 Ridge Geyserville
color: dark red-purple going brick at the edges
nose: plummy dark fruit, spices, tar
palate: rich fruit, integrated oak, minerals, good acidity, medium body
This is one of our last '90s "zins" and quite a wine. Still showing evidence of what was likely a pretty oaky youth, it had integrated that oak without losing its fruity core. The structure of this wine is what sets it apart from so many other zinfandels and blends, as even at age 13 it still showed good acidity and structure. A pleasure to drink.
