2004 Domaine de Mourchon CDRV (Seguret)

Inky purple and full bodied in the glass. Bit of funk on the initial nose that blew off in about 10 minutes to meaty and spicy dark fruit with hints of bacon and anise. Earthy fruit and tannins on the palate capped with a dandy acidity makes this a really nice match with a meal. A really nice peppery finish also.

Its nice to stumble onto a good, traditional, medium priced Southern Rhone. Most of the ones we’ve been trying lately have been distinctly international in style.

About $25.00….and certainly a wine that I’ll be purchasing more of

My wife and I visited the domaine last summer... beautiful location in the hills above seguret. They use all concrete in this bottling. Mostly gravity and some artificial yeasts to get things going.

FWIW the owner (a British man who sold his company and started the domaine) said that his '07s are the best that he has ever made. Don't think they have hit the shelves yet though.
