WTN: 2006 Wyatt Cabernet Sauvignon

2006 Wyatt Cabernet Sauvignon

I couldn't resist trying a $9 California Cabernet so I picked up a few bottles.

Interesting color of purple/red this wine has a nice nose of berries, spices and chocolate. On the palate the wine has some decent Cabernet characteristics, low tannins and a nice finish.

Nothing special but certainly very drinkable. If you need a case or two of an inexpensive red for your holiday party of 50 people this wouldn't be a bad choice.

A recession special! It's always good when a sub-$10 bottle is drinkable or better.

Allegedly Mr. Parker gave it 90 points (which I find somewhat surprising - its not that good). Can anyone confirm that?

"Wyatt Cab 2007 is a home run. Let me say this- it's better than the 90pt 2006. How/why? Well, because it's 2007. 2007 is a special vintage in northern Cali. It just has more depth to the fruit and the winemakers throughout the area know it. So, if you were looking for the 90pt Parker 2006, feel very very excited for the much better 2007. The 2006 press if you'd like it...Parker, "Another knock-out wine is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon, a blend of 81% Cabernet and 19% Merlot. This wine is outstanding, deep ruby with some purple nuances, with loads of sweet fruit, medium body, velvety tannins, and a heady finish. This beauty should drink well for 5-7 years.

I made a mistake in my original post. This wine was $9 not $7.

Its not that good. Mr. Parker's grading must be getting easier.
