I am getting excited

by wrcstl » Thu Nov 13, 2008 2:08 pm

It may have been mentioned recently but the word is that we will begin to see some real discounts in wine. I talked to the owner of our largest wine shop in town and he says a couple of distributors are close to going out of business, high end wine sales are down and he is beginning to see some very deep discounts to improve cash and move wine to make more for the next vintage. Hate to see companies suffer but with my portfolio down 40% I need to get a break on wine.

Walt's Wine Bailout!

Yep, I expect that will happen with many distributors and retailers around the country. Especially the underfunded ones. Which tend to be the ones who bring in the delicacies.

Let the frenzy begin.

Gas prices and wine prices down - what more could we ask for! (well, a lot, but you get me)

Actually I had already noted some deep discounts and a huge increase in the number of 'special offer' emails I'm getting.

Well, recent auctions have been around low estimate, or with lot of passed lots. I've gotten some real discount offerings recently. I had sworn off any more buying for this month, but an offering on 05 Burgs was low enough I bit:
Rousseau Gevrey @$59
Gouges Porrets @$49
Gouges NSG @$29
Jadot Commaraine@$ 35
Trapet Ostrea @ $33
Pousse d'Or Volnay Bousse @$69
(not confirmed, I told the owner he could fill bigger orders first, my way of justifying buying).
I had thought I had done well last month with the Gouges villages @$40 and the Porrets @ 57.

So: as the global economy and financial superstructure collapses around us, we'll drink better wine (and more of it) than evey before!

At least if I have no money I will be able to drink from the cellar.
