Rich and long and hazelnutty and warming. Just the thing for a cold first night of Spring.

Jay, I've been drinking a lot of sherry lately as well. A nice glass at the end of a cold day is a wonderful thing. Actually, this winter I discovered a perverse love for hot Sake on the cold-cold nights. I've never liked the taste, and still don't, but the feeling of drinking hot wine relaxes and warms as it goes.

Hopefully we'll soon be drinking chilled Vinho Verde to cool down on the hot days!

I only have sherry at the Lantana House in Rockport when we visit for a week in August. They keep a decanter out for guests. I always enjoy a nice little glass (or two) at the end of the day before bed. Nutty/caramel/sweet with a hint of flowers or something. I've grown to enjoy and look forward to that.

Locally, I sometimes indulged in 10 or 20 year old Porto, or Ruby, and sometimes even a local vidal/raspberry sweetie. I have some vintage Porto ready for retirement.

Sherry and other non-Porto quaffs I just know of nothing. Maybe I just adjust my thinking.

Sherry... shorthand for 'ruined wine'. Bleh.

Now, madeira is a drink for a cool Spring night!

Fino with slices of pata negra, manchego and almonds - match made in heaven.

Amontillado with tapas (piquillos rellenos, tortilla de papatas, etc etc) - magnificent.

Domecq Venerable PX with chocolate cake - to die for.
