Gambled on this when I found a lone bottle a few months ago at $10. After reading David Lole's recent TN on the Seppelt Great Western Shiraz (well that, and his warning that this could be over the hill), I decided to pop it open last night to accompany the cricket.
Clear dark red colour with lots of fine sediment in the glass. The nose was pleasant at first with some mulberry and plum flavours mingled with spices and earth, but with air a faint oxidative, caramelised note started to emerge. A little thin and light bodied in the mouth with dark fruits over slightly bitter earthy flavours and good acidity. Started to fade after an hour or so - this definitely seems to be on the decline. Rather nice initially, but as the fruit fell away with time and that oxidative element came through on the nose, this became less pleasant.
