WTN: Lyngrove Reserve Shiraz/Pinotage 2004

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:01 pm

Baarsma
WO Stellenbosch

An 80-20 blend.

Healthy cherry red in the glass.

A strong medicinal-band aid nose with some great smoky notes.

Medium weight, earthy, band aid, spicy, peppery, good acidity, tangy raspberry, cherry and cranberry, smoky, earthy, leather, quite rich, a hint of beets.

Smoky, earthy, band aid and leather on the long, tangy finish.

This is the sort of wine that people will either love or hate. As it turns out, I loved it. :D

Purchased at $12.95 (Canadian).

That band-aid will put a lot of folks off. Although you might have to fight Quincy Jones for a bottle. Maybe Bono too...

Bruce,

Thanks for the brilliant note - I love your descriptors, and am putting this wine on my short list for my next visit to the LCBO.

This is a general-list item, I take it? I've never heard of the producer. The price sure sounds right, and it appears to have ample brett to keep me interested and happy.

Thanks again - you made my evening.
