First Lopez De Heredia Gran Reserva - How do I deal with it?

by David M. Bueker » Sat Mar 25, 2006 2:23 pm

I picked up a bottle of the '85 Tondonia Gran Reserva. Do I decant this? If so, how long? Pour it straight from bottle? How about food thoughts?

TIA
David

David, the 85 doesn't need decanting, but as with all Heredia it will change substantially in the glass. With RLdH, the wines can either be open from the git-go, or have a muskiness that blows off after a time. I usually crack and assess based on that.

Sorry there isn't a clear answer, these wines are different every time.

Enjoy!

Best,
Joe

The '85s really aren't ready to drink yet, it's the latest GR release. If you insist I'd certainly be prepared to follow it over several hours.

The Tondonia GRs that I've had seem to need a little more time to come around than a comparably aged Bosconia. It's still a baby and decanting might help a little. Either way, enjoy!
