WTN: Hecula 2005

Bodegas Castaño
DO Yecla

100 per cent Mourvèdre (Monastrell).

Dark purple, almost black, in the glass.

Nothing on the nose. (I looked up a previous WTN on this vintage and I made a similar comment about a lack of a nose. Strange).

Spicy, good acidic edge, black cherry, blackberry, tobacco, with a slightly unpleasant burned-bitter streak.

Lightly tannic and drying with some black cherry fruit on the finsh.

Rougher and simpler than a previous bottle of this vintage.

Purchased at $13.85 (Canadian).
