Have fun! Then afterward, come here and confess. Your banker may not forgive you, but WE will. :)

I confess that this economy has me spooked and I have been buying a lot less than normal.
I confess that I have a lot of bottles in my cellar that really should be drunk up before I buy anything more.
I confess that at times I wait until my wife is out of the house before I bring my wine in and take it safely to the cellar.
I confess I recently bought 3 bottles of 2003 Wylie Fenaughty Syrah & 2 bottles of 2005 Rocks and Gravel (both Edmunds St. John of course) for just shy of a Franklin, along with 2 bottles of Dom. de la Tour du Bief 2006 (DuBoeuf) on close-out for $11.
I confess that I ordered 6 2003 Quinta de la Quietud Toro, and 6 2003 Havens Wine Cellars Syrah Hudson Vineyard Carneros by mail order to be shipped this September.
I ask your forgiveness and understanding. :D

Two fresh local purchases from a couple of hours ago:

Flam unoaked Chadonnay-Sauvignon Blanc 2007, that was reviewed in the latest WineLibrary TV episode (Link)
Carmel, Sha'al Vineyard, late harvest gewurz 2006 - a rich and balanced desert from a small northern single vineyard

Each for under 20$ (locally), I think both are available in the states.

Ah, a man of exquisite taste!

We took a bottle of its big brother, the GR 113 Rare Rutherglen Muscat , and its cousin, the DP59 Rare Rutherglen Tokay, to London on our recent trip. The Tokay is still sitting, unopened, on a bureau in Wanstead – too many wines, not enough time.

I’ve purchased nothing this month, although that may change on Saturday at a local tasting. Last month we made several brief but interesting visits to London wine shops. Philglas and Swiggot was the source of a 2004 Cloudy Bay Te Kono SB and a 2005 Clonakilla Shiraz, and we escaped from the Wanstead Majestic wines shop with 16 bottles from all over the place selected while we drank freely from their tasting bar.

In the past 2 weeks:

1 case of Poesia Pasodoble '05 (great QPR)
1/2 case of Bodegas Castano Hecula '05
2 Ch. Ste. Michelle Indian Wells Cab '05
2 Salentein Reserve Malbec '05
4 Conn Valley Prologue Cab '06
2 MonteGras Quatro Reserva '05
1 Caymus '05
1 Honig Cab '05
1 Whitehall lane Silver Anniversary Reserve '04
1 Mondavi Reserve Napa Cab '04

This was an addition to my 150 bottle inventory. I'm now out of space, out of money, and my wife thinks I need therapy! I think she may have a point. I need to quit buying and start drinking. (Hate when that happens ! )

CHEERS!

Bob,

You wrote:

I confess to that too... and much, much more!

Quick, someone get me a cilice!

My most recent sin: two bottles of 2005 Pichon Baron at 115 euros apiece yesterday.

Best regards,
Alex R.

Before I buy a single additional bottle...I need to spend two grand on a proper cooling cabinet. I live in a townhouse, so no underground cellars are possible. The problem is, the bottles are purchased 1 here, another there, etc....so it's not as painful as spending the big bucks all at once, which I really really don't have, all at one time.

I had one more leaky bottle situation this week, sadly, from a warm day and a too warm location this week. "Luckily," if the wine is not fully and truly cooked, I was kinda sorta thinking about opening it this weekend anyway. 1998 Robert Sinskey RSV Cabernet. I've been lucky so far....the two leaky bottles I've had (two French Syrahs) have nonetheless shown utterly delicious. So...wish me luck.

1 case of Atteca Old Vines '05. Yeah, it's a fruit bomb. But it's a really great fruit bomb.

1 case of Leverano Rosado '07. I don't wanna shell out $17.99 a bottle for Tavel, okay? Besides, you gotta love a rose made from a grape called negroamaro.

Couple bottles of Larredya Jurancon Sec. Call me a Hedonist.

Couple bottles of Marie Weiss NV Champagne. Formerly outlaw stuff, brought into legitimacy by Peter Weygandt.

That's all for now.

Got my eye on some Cotes de Roussillon Village...

Actually I didn't buy much more than you- I bought lots of things, but mostly 1s and 2s.
But still more than I meant to buy. And I forgot to get the '94 Spatlese! Damn.
But then......this AM.....Andrew at Zachys sent out a loss leader. About 16 wines at $5 a bottle if you buy case. I ended up buying 4 cases. I'll split with friends, but couldn't pass up:
2002 Roc de Cambes at $60/case, 2005 Beaumont (1er Cote de Blaye) at $60/case, 2005 Viticcio CC at $60/case, 2003 Giovanni Rosso Barolo Serralunga at $120/case of 24 375MLs.

Still showing the Chianti and Blaye as available, along with a few others:

Ok...I went first thing this morning. Here's what I came home with:

2 2004 Louis Martini Napa Valley Cab
2 2005 Joseph Drouhin LaForet Bourgogne
6 2007 Shoofly Buzzcut
2 2004 Pedroncelli Mother Clone Zinfandel
1 2002 Hugel Gewurz
3 2006 Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages
2 2005 Kris Pinot Grigio
6 2004 La Posta Bonarda

Oh. And I put a hold on an incoming case of Marietta Old Vine Red.

I, too, was not going to buy any for a while. But with all the choices, I think I showed remarkable restraint. :|

I've bought no wine in the past seven months at all. I think that I've never been able to say this before; well at least not since I had any interest in wine. That's since 1984. It's a nice feeling; very strange as well, but nice. I wonder if anyone here has shown even more (recent) restraint. Of course, this restraint follows over twenty years of a real wine budget bronco ride.
