A very good article. Nice look at Francois Despagne, who seems an honorable man. I realize the "journal" articles are not supposed to be full-fledged reporting, but I do wish that Erlanger had gotten a quote or two from one of the chateaux disputing the '06 classification.

Here's one: "Whine, whine, whine...our great history...whine, whine, whine, respect for the history of this great terroir...whine, whine, whine."

A factual innacuracy in the article, which I find very superficial.

After writing about Grand Corbin d'Espagne, the journalist says: "The ruling also punished two other chateaus, Pavie Macquin and Troplong Mondot".

He neglected to mention:

Bellefont-Belcier
Destieux
Fleur Cardinale
Grand Corbin
Grand-Corbin-Despagne
Monbousquet

Best regards,
Alex R.

Technically an omission rather than an inaccuracy. Still, misleading, but somewhat superficial as you point out.

I believe Alex was calling the article superficial, not the omission.

As to the omission, a slightly better editing job would said "threw Mr. Despagne and (five) others who had been promoted (to Grand Cru Classe) into fury and confusion."
then the following would have been clearer:
"The ruling also punished two other chateaus, Pavie Macquin and Troplong Mondot. They were elevated in 2006 to the rarefied air of premier grand cru classé B, which brings even more rarefied prices."

Overall, I thought the article clear and informative. The journal entries are intended to be more human interest and less dry facts,
