Sicily.

Decanted.

Quite tart, cherry and raspberry fruit, some spice, peppery, black licorice, but the lazer-like acidity pretty much dominates. With time, the wine did flesh out a little.

Tried the 2003 vintage several months ago at a wine show and it was much better.

Comes in a goofy looking blue bottle.

Bruce: As an FYI, that goofy looking blue bottle is a Canada-only wine. There's a white counterpart also; that's a blend of Grillo and Chardonnay.

In the US they sell only the Nero d"Avola and the Grillo (but there is some Shiraz in the Nero, and some Chardonnay in the Grillo). No blue bottles in the US though...just blue labels on the Sicilians.
