It's been a while since I poked my head in here. Life intervenes. Other internet distractions take over one's free time (but most of my 3500-volume library is now cataloged!). Where to begin? One bottle at a time...

One of the nicer things I've had lately is a Joseph Swan 2001 Russian River Valley Zinfandel, Frati Vineyard. It's old-fashioned, low-wood, brambly, redolent of drying strawberries and black pepper; the alcohol is mercifully moderate, which makes it easy to slurp; but it's deep and complex enough to savor.

Looking forward to posting more and hanging out, now that summer's here and the eleven-hour days have ended!

It's good to see you here. I alwys read your posts on the "old" site. I look forward to reading more. Like Joe, I'm curious about the 3500 library. Are those books or bottles? Either way I'm supremely jealous. I also had the Swan zin recently. Good stuff.

Sure it's personal, in the sense that they're all my books. But it's also professional, in the sense that I get paid to read them. (Don't tell me I have a freakishly good job: I know it!) Anyway, if it was an institutional library it'd be pretty meager.

It's books, not bottles; the latter library is about 500. But then, I don't recycle my books once I've finished them, so the books will always have an advantage over the wine...

Of course the wine gets recycled too, just not in a very pleasant way. Like beer, wine is never purchased, but merely rented.

Patchen, you've been away too long. And, nice note on one of Sonoma's best producers. Great zins for the reasons you mention, and they age!

A quick comment on that: Because I've wanted to be fair to the folks at Netscape and live up to every aspect of my contractual agreement with them, I've somewhat soft-pedaled publicity on the "new" WLDG, and it's entirely possible that some of the prodigals simply don't know we're here.

They're all welcome back, though, and we have an unlimited supply of Virtual Calves™. I would appreciate it very much indeed if any, and all, of you who have personal contact with Prodigals would pass the word, and assure them that at the New WLDG, like the Old WLDG, we keep our old friends' bar stools reserved and their monogrammed frosted mugs safe in the freezer.

What a nice warm welcome. Thanks, Robin, Jenise, Bill, etc.! Glad to see so many familiar names in the forum, too. I'm still getting the hang of the new software, and it's a little unnerving to have these emoticons blinking at me while I type, but I'm sure I'll figure everything out. Just don't sacrifice ME at the altar if I trip over any of the furniture in my first couple of weeks!

Best fresh, you know, and I figure the toddling town should be hot and humid enough for you to have reason to pop the cork on it by now, Herr Doktor Professor.

And it was awfully good, although I don't have a note on it. Snappy but pretty complex too. As I recall, we had it within a couple of weeks after we saw you; we couldn't wait for appropriate weather. So thanks, again.

As for this Hair Doctor stuff: no fair making fun of the bald(ing) guy!

Hey! Watch who you're calling bald! Some of have had years of hair loss not to mention three teenage daughters. It's no wonder I drink so much wine.

Why don't you pull up a chair and join in? I know there is more witty reparte over on 'that other place", but your seat at the table is always ready. I always enjoy reading your posts too.
