NEWS: NYT article about Bollinger Vielles Vignes

by Jenise » Wed Jun 14, 2006 2:16 pm

After reading this, I must amend my reply to Joe Perry's poll on wines one can't wait to open. I have a bottle.

I thought of Joe's post when I read the article, Jenise, but don't have a bottle or anticipation. I've got to track down one, just for the joy of trying such an unusual wine.

Can't tell too much about the terroir impact of grafted vines from such a small sample, but fascinating history nontheless.

It certainly enhances the experience of drinking the wine, which is why we often drink wine with our Hugh Johnson Atlas open in front of us--same reason you go flying around with Google Earth. The more you connect what you taste to what you know, the more meaningful the experience.

I've been using Johnson and Google Earth together, Jenise -- you're right: the geography is a wonderful part of the experience of enjoying wine.

Certainly a timely counterpoint to the discussion regarding the merit of wine.

The Bollinger VVF is one of the most glorious wines I've ever tasted, and has etched itself in my memory.

Best,
Joe

Joe, you really whet my appetite for this bottle, and this article only furthered it.

Btw, interesting thing he said about the conventional wisdom that VV's are not supposed to age. I had not heard that before, to be honest.
