Thanks Robin,

I first started fooling around with computers back in 1968, and I do understand a thing or two about them, not all of course and am always open to suggestion about them. I will look into what you say, but of course I know that ALL cookies are not evil, but I also know that SOME are. and the easiest way to get rid of the ones that are, is to delete them when I leave the browser. Thanks again for your pointer.

Bob, unless you're fooling around on sites that you don't really need to be visiting - offshore gambling, hard-core porn, illegal hacking sites - the chances of encountering a truly evil cookie are mighty slim. If it makes you feel more secure to kill all cookies every time you close your browser, that's certainly your prerogative. But I wish you wouldn't then blame the forum software because the yellow folder icon for new messages won't work for you.

Robin, I am not visiting the types of sites that you reference and truthfully I resent the implications as even a possibility. You and I differ on our treatment of security on the internet. I haven't blamed the software for anything. If you read all of my post to Neil, you will see that I admitted that my inability to use the forum in the way he was pointing out might be my security settings. My exact words were "So, unless it is the fault of my cantankerous ( or as some might have it over zealous) security protection," So, how is it that I am blaming the software. you seem to be so protective of the software everywhere you land,. you drove away many of the finest with this kind of response in the Netscape forum and if someone here (me for example) says anything that YOU can take as inflamatory towards the software you seem to lash out. Frankly I really do not like to air this kind of dirty linen in the open this way, and have in the past taken it private, but I seem to keep getting it in the open so I am answering in the same vein. You can of course bar me from the forum if you desire, as I know that you do have that ability. I suspect that you also have the ability to zap any post from the forum that you think is counter to the good of the fo\rum and anytime you want you can feel free to zap mine. I would of course appreciate a public explanation of what and why it was done.

Bob, there's nothing to zap, no need for hard feelings, no insult meant, and certainly no dirty linen. To recap, I'm just trying to point out that by your own statement, you're consciously wiping out ALL cookies, including those that can be helpful to you. I'm not sure I understand why you feel a need to do that with this forum's cookies. I wasn't implying that you visit that kind of sitem but just pointing out that if you don't, then worrying about cookies is really a non-issue. If it makes you feel better, fine, but I'm just trying to point out to you - in what I thought was a friendly way - that you're really creating a problem for yourself for no particularly good reason.
