Being offered on sale along with other Alsace wines at Calvert and Woodley in DC. I've never tried it. Is it a fun sparkling rose' or blah?

Calvert-Woodley is having a great sale on Alsatian wines in general. Check out their website. I would post it but I haven't figured out how to do it and I'm too lazy to get a tutorial.[/url]

I've had the wine a couple of times while in Alsace. It's a decent B wine, 84-85 points, with light berry flavors -- a little too soft for my personal taste.

Thanks, Randy for taking the time to reply.

I have always liked the regular non rose Cremant from Albrecht as one of the better value sparklers available. I haven't tried the rose so Randy's comments are a little disappointing. I'd love to know what you thought if you try one.

For those in the DC area, Woodley Calvert will be having a tasting of the Lucien Albrecht wines tomorrow evening. I'm hoping to slip down. If I do I'll try to get some impressions.

Ditto--in fact, Marc was the one who introduced me to this wine. The version he poured me was quite golden and concentrated--most bottles since have been lighter, some have been drier and some more off-dry, but they've all been great value. I would presume the same variations would carry over to the rose (lucky you--I love roses, but haven't seen that here.)

Why is that? A good, solid B wine for around $13 -- pretty good value.

Hmm, I guess I missread your comment about the wine being too soft, I thought you didn't like it very much.

Well, I am an admitted acid head.

I decided to go ahead and order two bottles of the sparkling rose' and one bottle of 2002 Marc Tempe Gewurztraminer Zellenberg (another wine I've never tried). I may not pick them up until late summer but will post after I try them. Will look for notes from the Lucien Albrecht tasting.

Good purchases JC. We're headed down to the tasting in about an hour. I'll try to post something. I hope they're tasting the rose cremant. I'm a sucker for a sparkling rose and it's hard to find one at that price. I'll pick one up no matter what.

So I go all the way over to NW DC from my home in the eastern suburbs (think out towards Annapolis, but not to near) and when I get there they only have one Albrecht to taste! It's not even the cremant rose. They are tasting three wines (more later if I get to it) and they have some great deals. I do walk out with a bottle of the rose cremant, but it hasn't made it to the cooler yet. I still managed to fill the cart.

Sorry they disappointed you by not having more wines at the tasting. Tell me what you think or the rose' after opening it.

Life is like that. A trip to Calvert Woodley is always worth the effort. I'm just too lazy to get down there very often.
