  • N.V. Renardat-Fâche Vin du Bugey-Cerdon Méthode Ancestrale - France, Savoie, Vin du Bugey-Cerdon (5/26/2006)
Gorgeous blood orange red, terrific strawberry nose, not quite as frothy as last year's. It doesn't taste as sweet either. Crunchy green Granny smith apples, strawberries and a touch of raspberries on the palate. The well integrated acidity and generous finish complete the package. This case will probably not last the summer.

Thanks Howard. Sounds like another yummy batch this year.

Is there now a disgorgement date or some other means to recognize which batch one is buying? While I love drinking this stuff, it fades pretty fast, so freshness is critical.

I've never seen a disgorgement date or anything on the bottle. It is never a problem as the wine never seems to last very long on the store shelves, at least around here.

I really like the Ocean spray cranapple note in the latest batch of this.

I havent found a date either but there is a Lot number on each bottle. That number may vary from year to year. If I remember correctly, its a light marking, almost like a water mark that you have to hold at the right angle to a light to see.
Words of Wisdom from Joe Dressner on the bottle marking.

I found it! I just bought the last five bottles at a local shop a few days ago. It's on the front label, just to the left of the words "sparkling wine" underneath the producer name. I would call it 'embossed'--it's pressed into the paper. Mine, FWIW, are L052.

Got it. Mine says " L053." I think the label is a little different than last year's too. Didn't last year's say "Vin du Bugey-Cerdon?" This one just says," Bugey Cerdon"

I found it, had to tale my glasses off to see it though. L053 on these also.

Glug glug.

Marc, two different lots in the same town? Wouldn't have expected that. Now we just have to find out what's in each. And I wonder if 052 and 053 correspond to approximately the same blends as last year's 042 and 043, meaning the latter has more poulsard.

Good find Jenise! They're pretty sneaky with that marking.
I'd love to try the two lots side by side.

My first 4 bottles came from slough foods, and they are long gone. I never looked at them to see the embossed #. The rest were from food pavillion on fairhaven parkway, these have L053.

Howard, Poulsard is one of the blending grapes in the sparkling wine, with gamay. I think they grow it in the Jura as well as Savoie/Bugey.
