60% bonarda, 40% malbec from Tikal winery, an offspring from mainstay Catena in Mendoza, Argentina. Tikal is the venture of Ernesto Catena, Nicolas Catena's son. Dark purple. Aroma of very ripe red berries and a hint of balsamic. Full body, 13.7% abv. Ripe red and dark berries, plums, sweaty leather, smoke and roasted meat. Distinctively animal, probably a character I associate with the rusticity of the bonarda. Oak is not intrusive, it has been absorbed by the dense fruit. Not very tannic, this is close to ready to go. Chunky and rough in the edges. A mouthfull. Medium and slightly sour finish. Ideal with a juicy steak.
