Short notes from a new Tasting Table set at the Wine Depot.

St. Hallett Eden Valley Riesling 2004 - Lots of citrus rind and acidity but with just a hint of sweetness for balance. Has some heft to it. Not bad.

Brookland Valley Verse 1 Merlot Margaret River 2002 - Very dark with a good nose of mint and ripe fruit. A little tame on the front but with a good finish. Slightly flabby. Quite dry. Pricey for what it offers otherwise not bad.

Kumkani Pinotage 2004 - Good strawberryish nose. Coarse and open knit wine. Slightly burnt flavor but no chemical/VA burn. Not for me.

Tatachilla Partmers South Australia Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz 2003 - Very fragrant and full. Tastes very young with lots of tannins. Plenty ripe fruit. Good value for money.

Houghton Cabernet Sauvignon Western Australia 2003 - Very dark. Plenty of mint on the nose. Minty taste, too. Young, medium bodied, good balance. Very nice.

Estancia Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 - Rather light. Smells like strawberry jam. Seems to lack stuffing. Good quaffer if it were cheaper.

Kaesler Stonehorse Barossa Valley Shiraz 2003 - Minty, slightly burnt fruit nose. Dry. Medium bodied. Tannic. Long finish. Good but nothing special.
