TN: Old Reserve, 10 Years Old--Justino`s.

Walking into my local wine store hotspot here in Edmonton, I spied 3 nearly empty bottles on the tasting bar. "Where were you Monday night Doris?".."Watching the curling, what did I miss here?"

Anyhows I tried the Fine Rich 3 Years Old and found it acceptable. The glass I poured next was a revelation, the 10 Years Old. Now I am no expert but I do like my sweeties! Deep amber colour with an elegant rich, ripe nose of caramel and toffee. Nice and smooth on the palate, more caramel and coffee. Life does not get better than this as I wandered around and checked out the Port selection. The aftertaste followed me around as I muttered "to hell with the curling".

This is one drink I have never warmed up to. Chuck Miller has been kind to share some fine old bottles with the gang, but while I can appreciate them. it is not my first choice for sure.

And as long as we are going on the record:

Roy the Port boy would rather be stranded on a desert island with a bottle of Madeira than Port!

as I muttered "to hell with the curling".

What blasphomy! Next you'll be toasting up owls and making peanut-butterfly sandwiches!

Madeira rocks, says Otto the Volatile Acidity boy Give me Musar, Riesling and Madeira and I'm a happy camper!

We recently got the H&H 15 YOs here, but so far the Sercial is the only one I've tasted. Fairly nice. A bit sweeter than expected for the grape. Great with a cigar. I've always thought that oxidised wines go well with cigars though all other wines are destroyed.

I'll never forget entering the Winecellar of Silene in Waltham, MA some years ago when they had a Blandy's Madeira tasting. On entering the store, I smelled a magnificent and complex wine perfume. This turned out to be an open "sniffing glass" of 1920 Blandy's Bual Madeira. Its fragrance had filled the entire store, and could be smelled from over 50 feet away! This was, and still is, a magnificent wine.

I have a few bottles of 1834 Madeira. I hope to celebrate their bicentennial.
