Barkan Special Reserve Winemakers' Choice

Postby Z Spigelman » Tue Aug 13, 2013 4:31 pm

This evening at Derech HaYayin the salesman showed me a new series of Barkan wines - "Special Reserve Winemakers' Choice":
Petite Verdot 2010
Pinotage 2010
Shiraz 2010
Chardonnay 2012.
Has anyone tasted these yet?
Due to the decrease in the quality of their Reserve series over the past few years, I am wondering if these are an improvement.

I have tasted them, and I firmly believe that they have replaced the Reserves at a higher price point. the Reserves themselves have become a disappointment.

Hello Guys,

I tasted these with Ed at the Barkan Winery, I will stick with scores and not full notes. One that was skipped was the new 2012 Classic Malbec a new nice and almost QPR wine of old:

1) 2012 Chard reserve: B+ to B++ (AKA 89)
2) Pinotage 2010: B+ to A- very good
3) Petite Verdot 2010: B+ at best a bit off the mark
4) Shiraz 2010: did not taste
5) The OTHER BIG WIN: The 2011 Cab reserve, winemaker's choice: A- (may be the best reserve wine from them in a long time)

Dave we tasted the Barkan Reserve Shiraz 2010 together at the Terravino dinner in Dec. 2012 and it was ok.
