In a very casual tasting of, say, two wines, a red and a white, how many tastes per bottle should one pour?

Each 750ml bottle - essentially - has 25 ounces. At tastings one normally gets an ounce at most, allowing for 25 pours. If you are more laid back and have enough wine, pour more :D

A one ounce poor is sufficient but its tough to pour exactly one ounce - I'd calculate 20

Sounds safer. However, either way, we are talking about a wee bit of wine. 1 or 1.3 ounces. Please understand that. Most folks will not be able to appreciate a wine from that amount of liquid. Always better to have more bottles - unless these are "pros" or aficionados - then you are safe.

In my tastings (usually 8 or 9 wines, typically 16-18 people) I get one bottle of each wine, pour enough for each person to have a reasonable amount, and often there is at least one-third of the wine left in each bottle. Many people don't even drink as much as I pour.
