hi, harry,

as for your three preferences, my guess is that less than $15/NIS60, say, you are restricted to syrah --- recanati regular series and the like. as soon as you go up to less than $20/NIS80, then there is teperberg malbec, and dalton petite sirah for starters,recanati reserve shiraz/syrah and others. that would also include the rhone-like syrah blends such as domaine netofa red. i would also guess that carmel appellation and binyamina reserve is in the latter category.

Consider the Assemblage line by Barkan in particular the Tzapit as an inexpensive red wine.

Depending on your price range - when i was in Israel a few months ago, the best inexpensive dry red i came across was 2009 Teperberg silver label cabernet. And the Recanati wines are always good.

Prices are for PYOP or other discounters. Supermarket prices are WAY higher.

For about 35 sheqels (if you buy three):
Galil Mountain Cabernet or Merlot

For about 60 sheqels (if you buy two):
Galil Mountain Alon or Pinot Noir

For about 70 sheqels:
Teperberg Malbec

For about 80/90 sheqels:
Galil Mountain Meron / Yiron

For about 110 sheqels:
Yarden Cabernet / Merlot or Syrah

In my opinion the best value of the lot has to be the Galil Mountain Alon.

Harry, indeed many here already suggested a few great QPR choices at $15 or less!

I would add Tabor Adama I Series (50-60 NIS), Dalton Petite Sirah (50-60NIS) is also amazing in the price category, Carmel Appellation (50-60NIS) that is to say the CS, the CF and the CS-Shiraz, Dalton D series in general (40-60), Recanati the basic series (40-60), especially CS and Shiraz, Teperberg Silver Series are ok too (40-50NIS). I strongly suggest to try out the Ugav (30-40) and Nikanor (60) by the Jerusalem Winery that I've mentioned above for something new and providing IMHO great value!

Having just returned from Israel, I think the Binyamina Reserve series is a great deal. In particular we enjoyed the Reserve Shiraz 07 and the Carignan 09. Both were purchased at 70 nis.
