By Invitation / WeeksEnd wine

bsd
The desire sometimes arises to visit. But it might not be the right time. An inner debate erupts; does the desire legitimize the intrusion?
Or perhaps protocol reigns supreme. What am i concentrating more on; myself as the initiator or rather the Place where I'm visiting.
Have a good one; h

It's going to be the 1997 Domaine Capmartin madiran. Very tannic whenI bought it some years ago; hope it's ready by now. very old vines (80 years, they say) with tannat being the first mentioned grape.

After a jam-packed Passover, I am likely going with some simple pleasures this week from Dalton - the Dalton D Petite Sirah and Fume Blanc.

Shavua Tov Harry! And yes, I'll second Isaac Chavel, you are definitely on a roll! ;)

This was a Syrah-driven shabat!

Friday night:

Domaine Netofa, Latour Red 2009: Certainly not the first time I had this one but by it showed the best this time and by far after over 2 hours in the decanter. My father and myself drank the entire bottle and he loved it as he's very much into old-world style. As a reminder, an oak aged blend of Syrah and Mourverdre in the tradition of Cotes-du-Rhone in France but made in Karmei Netofa in the Galilee. Very dark garnet and full-bodied, with on the nose and palate saddle leather, blackberries, plums and spicy oak followed by Mediterranean herbs rising with nice tannins on a long finish. Polished and well made.

Shabbat lunch:

Carmel, Private Collection Emerald Riesling 2010: More dry than off-dry, lacking fruit and acidity. Disturbing.

GHW, Yarden Syrah 2006: Same remark as for the Netofa, the best tasting I had with this one! Dark garnet, full-bodied with on the nose leather and raspberries, followed on the palate by leather, raspberries, spices, vanilla and fresh tobacco. Mouth-filling with silky tannins rising on the long finish. Everyone at the table was quite impressed.

Best,

GG

Light an simple wines this Shabbat:

Friday night - Dalton Moscato 2011, light and refreshing, not overly sweet. (I was at a tasting on Friday and didn't feel a need for any more red wine - see below. We also had spicy Asian style dishes which don't complement dry red wines).

Shabbat morning - Recanati Yasmin red 2011, a Cabernet - Merlot blend with good body for an entry level wine. Nothing complex but nice ripe fruit.

On Friday morning we went to a tasting at the Grape Man in Jaffa. For the weekend before independence day they had a tasting of top Israeli wines (what they call an open house). They had an impressive lineup of wines at least half of which were kosher. The more memorable wines I tasted:
GHW Rom 08 - concentrated fruit, mouth-filling with soft tannins and a long finish. Impressive and very approachable at this young age.
GHW Katzrin 07 - cassis and blackberry on the nose, good structure with chocolate on the finish. Still quite tannic and oaky, but the wine is still young.
Teperberg reserve Merlot 07 (from Magnum bottles) – Cassis and berries followed by herbs, chewy tannins and a slightly bitter finish.
Or Haganuz Namura Cabernet 09 – surprising nose of kirsch and raspberry followed by a more conventional Cabernet profile of cassis and gentle oak.
Yaar Yatir 06 – opens with ripe plums followed by berries herbs and mint. Ripe and concentrated.
Ben Haim Grand Reserve Cabernet 05 – classic cabernet nose with good structure.
Bazelet Hagolan Reserve Cabernet 09 – cassis and berries, soft and mouth filling with a gentle finish. A soft and mellow Cabernet.
Segal Unfiltered Cabernet 07 - opens with black cherries followed by currants, soft tannins and a smooth finish.

Hi, Harry, shavu'a tov,

2007 Binyamina Zinfandel Reserve. very enjoyable. My wife thought it was smooth already Friday night, although I felt some sharpness there. Shabbat lunch, all smoothed out, very, very nice.

A good week to all,

Isaac

We're having a heat wave so besides the madiran we drank some 2010 Domaine Bunan bandol rose (kosher), which we were given as a gift a little wnhile ago. Sorry to report that it doesn't cut the mustard as a Bandol rose. Rather light color, rather thin body, taste is OK but not what one should expect from a wine of this appelation.

Hi Harry,

Tzora Shoresh Blanc 2009 - Initial disappointment gave way to enjoyment after half an hour in the glass. Out of the gate the fruit and spice was muted, with a bitter streak dominating the palate. However, the wine blossomed with time to reveal notes of melon and with even more time notes of pineapple rounded out the palate very nicely, with the finish acquiring the expected spiciness of ginger and lychee. It still lacks acidity, but its spiciness makes up for it to some degree. 13.5% AbV, and five more bottles of this vintage in my cellar. As a reminder, let me reiterate that the wine is 85% Gewurztraminer and 15% Chardonnay.

Tzora Shoresh 2005 - In this vintage the wine is 100% Merlot. The wine was better than expected. The topnotes of fruit were complemented by what seemed at times as rose water and at others as dried tobacco leaves. The tannins are very well integrated, and it has a medium body. 13.5% AbV.

Best,

Chateau Rollan de By 2003 - Still drinking well, but this is the first bottle that had a hint of raisin. Hope this is a limited occurrence.

Hi Harry,
Just recieved the prix club shipment.
2008 Hagafen prix syrah. Their first release from this vineyard, whose name I don't recall.
Awesome syrah, great color, nose, acidity. A winner.

I ended up going over to a friend for some drinks after the meal so in addition to the Chateau La Clare 2005 I also had the Shiloh Legend, Tzora Shoresh Red 2009, and the Capcanes Peraj Petita 2008. They were all very enjoyable. Interestingly enough, I never liked the Peraj 2008 at all any other time I had it and I would have to agree with Yossie that the 2008 is drinking better now than the 2009, which I do like a lot. It's a shame I didn't save any of the 2008's.

YES and yumy.. Big fan of the Galil Barbera's

06' was amazing and 07' not under by very much.. Realy solid value.

We Had guest's for Shabbos and Opened:

2006 Yatir Blend: found it rich dark berries, even a little smokey ;)..
Nice oak fruit with mildly expansive flavors... For the bottle I had.. Drink in the next year to catch the peak.. Nice

2010 Or Haganuz White port..
My wife and guest's loved this.. Good fruit not to sweet.. Similar style to the Yarden Muscat; yet more body and totaly different range of flavors. Only had Lighly chilled ..for me it was FUN.

2008 Psagot Merlot - outstanding.
2005 Yarden Chardonnay - is it my imagination or is this getting too old?
