I had initially heard about $35/bottle...but now I'm hearing cheaper. Full markup should be about $30/bottle and discounters could sell it for a bit less...but only about 100 cases imported to US so it will go fast.

An alternative (yet more expensive) rose' is the Flam rose' which is also about to be coming back...but with even smaller quantities...only about 50 cases. Full markup on Flam will be about $3-4 more per bottle...

Not sure what to tell ya DR...you may want to ask your retailer (on or offline) to ask about it & bring it in, but it should be available...

Gvaot I think now has 3 distributors though.. Very interesting... NJ, PN & NY.

And the people you are talking about are Red Garden.

David, I understand Gvaot is very expensive in the States but in Israel I think it's pretty much in line the more or less with other boutique wineries of comparable quality (Shiloh, Tanya, even Ella Valley for some). While not cheap, I consider some of their wines such as the PN to be ok-priced for such a limited edition (less than 700 bottles) of very high quality wine. Here it is:

Gvaot's folks Shivi the winemaker, Amnon the owner and Eliav the marketing guy consistently talk about themselves as standing out by providing wines targeting the more sophisticated palates looking for more elegance and restrained fruit (in other words: old world). IMHO they've been quite successful on this path with the Pinot Noir, Vineyard's Dance, their bone-dry Gewurz and Masada in particular while the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are still quite fruity but I also like it that way. The new Chardonnay-CabSauv '11 truly is an excellent and elegant wine while being more difficult to categorize when taking into account the odd blend it is made of. I wonder by the way if whether or not any other winery anywhere in the world has ever tried to blend these 2 and in such noticeable percentages, 20% CabSauv here.

replies in order - Yehoshua - I HAVE NEVER made a penny in my life from wine and never intend to ever make money from it. I do write an occasional article or newsletter, always with full editorial rights - so I will and can slam or love any wine - if I am given them to taste.

Now - I ask because it is very important to know who imports wine. It talks to the importer - which is the backbone of the wine world and to the winery - depending on the importer. I have heard from a birdie that the importer for both Saslove and Gvaot will not be Red Garden (thanks - slip up with river importers) but rather Allied! WOW!

Sorry my man Gabriel those prices are still too high. The wines are nice, but not 90+. Most are 90 at best, and so the prices remain far too high for me. The last wines at sommelier, last year were A- at best - with the Cab Franc maybe peeking at an A- to A, but not really.

This has been a Wine without the Fanfare it deserved yet again the prices are a bit high to open the market for them in what they deserve

Saslove were both also with PremierWineImports in Penn yet never got them into NY which is why they went with another outlet. and Yes Wow big shift!!
They still do have the Agur wines and what a loss it is not to have them in NY?
They also had Tulip and brought in the White tulip. Royal has those now..

Hi Steve,

I assume you mean the new Galil Mntns Ella 2010. Following is my tasting note:

GMW, Ella 2010: The new mediterranean blend of the winery. 45% Syrah, 45% Barbera, 7% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. I forgot to take note of the time it spent in barrels. Anyway nice bouquet of sour cherries and raspberries with notes of violets, medium to full-bodied with on the palate sour red cherries, ripe red plums and raspberries with notes of tobacco and coffee, good acidity and soft tannins leading to a round and long finish.

I guess the new Ivri Series, then it's Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot-Shiraz, not just Merlot-Shiraz (unless there's an additional wine that I'm not familiar with). Excellent wines providing, at least in Israel, a relatively good QPR. While I was a bit disappointed across the board with the wines from the '09 vintage, Yoram is back with 2010!

The secret Auteur WOW and Yum.. fragile yet bold.. Such a cool wine.. Big yet ultra balanced and not heavy.. again neat
