Viticcio, Chianti Classico Riserva, 2005 (Advance Tasting): Dark garnet towards royal-purple, full-bodied, with firm tannins integrating nicely and showing blackberries,black cherries and cassis notes on a lightly earthy and chocolate background. Drink now-2009. Score 89. (Tasted 24 Apr 2008)
Viticcio, Chianti Classico, 2005: Dark ruby towards garnet, medium-bodied, with soft tannins and gentle hints of spicy wood. On the nose and palate blackberries, purple plums, citrus peel and minerals. Fruits and tannins rise nicely on the moderately-long finish, those marred somewhat by a too-strong hint of volatile acidity. Drink now. Score 85. (Re-tasted 24 Apr 2008)
Fontodi, Chianti Classico Riserva, Vigna del Sorbo, 2001: Deep ruby in color, medium- to full-bodied with gently mouth-coating tannins. Opens with aromas and flavors of heather and wild berries, goes on to blackcurrants and notes of tobacco. On the long finish a near jammy blackberry note. Complex and generous. Drink now-2008. Score 90. (Re-tasted 16 Apr 2006)
Felsina, Chianti Classico Riserva, Berardenga Rancia, 2004: Well done. Full-bodied, with silky tannins, a bare but tantalizing hint of white pepper and opening to show blackberries, black cherries and citrus peel. Long and complex. Drink now-2011. Score 92. (Re-tasted 24 Apr 2008)
San Giusto a Rentennano, Chianti Classico Riserva, Le Baroncole, 2003: Pleasant enough but without the complexities one might have hoped for. Medium- to full-bodied, with gripping tannins that seem not to want to integrate and a primarily dried cherry-berry personality. Drink now. Score 86. (Tasted but not blind 19 Jun 2007)
