2 reds this week..neither a "premium" wine ..still:
MORANDE RESERVA CARMENERE 2005 ,Maipo Valley Chille
Rated 5/5 stars (http://www.decanter.com,June 29,2007)...although quite good it did not live upto that high a rating in my opinion..I'd put it a 4 stars of 5...roast coffee ,herbs, dark fruit on the nose.. full bodied rich texture...concentrated soft dark fruits, spice and to me somebriar patch--balance on the palate but very strong and tannic on the finish..
Good for the price (just $13.95 cdn) -but I've had better Carmenere even at that price level.
VINA LA ROSA LA CAPITANA Bareel Reserve Merlot 2006,Cachapoal Valley Chile
Good QPR (just $12.95 cdn) --Merlot blended with small amounts of Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon--and it gives plenty of ripe red fruit, damsonplum and dark chocolate aromas and flavours...Fullbodied,smooth---medium on the finish...Very supple wine ..Good match for veal chops as I had at one meal.
