You get what you pay for Harry. I'd stay away from just about any Chardonnay that is that old...with the exception of course of some Burgundies... At $7/bottle it could be worth a try - but set your expectations REAL LOW.

Amiad???

Good luck.

Harry, Hi....

Regardless of price, I would avoid these wines, both of which have gone on to puppy heaven quite a few years ago.

Best
Rogov

Amiad, Hills of Galilee, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2000: So cherry red in color that you might mistake this wine at first glance for a Beaujolais. All of which could have been charming but the wine is faulted by being lean and earthy . Drink now. Score 78. K Re-tasted 13 Jul 2001)

Golan Heights Winery, Chardonnay, Yarden, 1995: Made entirely from Chardonnay grapes that were first fermented in stainless steel tanks and then transferred to French oak casks for 9 months, this medium bodied white may not be overly complex but it is crisp and charming, with generous apple, melon, grapefruit and pears in its flavors and aromas along with a light hint of spiciness. Drinking nicely now, the wine promises to cellar comfortably until 2000. Score 89. (Tasted 1 Nov 1996)

Harry, Hi....

You are right - I missed that. The appropriate tasting note follows.

Amiad, Special Reserve, 2000: Dark garnet towards purple in color, dep, full-bodied, with excellent balance between oak, soft tannins and fruit, a distinct step-up for Amiad. Complex flavors of vanilla, smoky oak, currant, berries and plums, all with a hint of spices on the long finish. Drink now – 2007. Score 90. (Re-tasted 20 May 2004) K
