Wines bearing the Yarden label established the kosher Golan Heights Winery as Israel's top vintner. The winery's Golan line offers wines made for early use, providing plenty of pleasure at lower prices.

The velvety, meaty 2006 Golan cabernet sauvignon, a summer red, is ideal for duck breast and braised short ribs.

I agree with Howard that this Golan series wine is good value for money. I might not, however, think of the wine as he does as "meaty". But then again, different strokes for different critic-folks. My own tasting note follows.

Golan Heights Winery, Cabernet Sauvignon, Golan, 2006: Medium-bodied, with caressing tannins, a gentle hint of vanilla from the oak in which it developed for six months and appealing berry, currant and black cherry fruits. Round and generous, a very good entry-level wine. Drink now. Score 86. K
