Vinas del Vero, Merlot, Reserva, Enate Somontano, Aragon, Spain, 2001: Using all of the negative connotations, a thoroughly New World wine, with quite enough oak to give you splinters, that raising raisined and vanilla notes that overpower the plum and berry fruits that struggle to make themselves felt. Full-bodied, near-sweet, hot and with a distinct root-beer finish. Drink now. Score 77. (Tasted twice with consistent notes 6 and 18 Feb 2005)
P.S. The Cabernet Sauvignon was considerably better.
