A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Tasting Notes

Between the Sommelier trade fair and six other tastings during the past week, there are a great many tasting notes waiting to be formalized. No problem. Late nights can be most pleasant. Both office and home are completely quiet and, with plenty of espresso, an occasional sip of Armagnac, perhaps a bit of salami or cheese from time to time and Nikos Theodrakis in the background, a good time to work.

Why then was last night different from all other nights? Quite simple, somewhere at about three in the morning the world of the present moment and I parted company as I fell sound asleep at my desk. How I eventually made my way from the desk to the couch in the office evades me, but I will admit that when I awoke at about ten a.m. I felt much, much refreshed. Even better, there is a shower in the office so I could refresh myself and better yet, a very pleasant cafe just a few meters from the entrance to the building to which I made my way, there, as was my habit for many years in both Paris and Geneva for several double espressos and three croissants.

Back at home now and soon back to the tasting notes!

Oh yes - Considering the comments, emails and phone calls I have received - time to put an end to the latest rumor even though I will admit it was good for my ego. The very beautiful young woman with whom I was seen on several evenings two weeks ago is not, as was suggested, "Rogov's new lover" but my niece who is visiting from the United States. What the heck,if you can't spoil your niece by taking her to fine restaurants there is something very wrong with the world.

Updating on weariness:

Today, a tasting of 70 Chateauneuf du Pape wines from 2007
A tasting of merely 9 Chablis wines being improted by Giocanda
A tasting of 14 mevushal kosher wines from three countries
A four course quite good kosher dinner in good company
The dinner followed by four short and strong espresso coffees

It is now 23:24 in the evening. Anyone thinking I am about to work on tasting notes has got another think coming. With no apologies whatsoever, I'm off to bed.

With a comfortable good night to all.
