20% alcohol by volume Some viscosity. Aged in wood. Purple-red color.
Prunes on the nose and mid-palate. Plummy finish. Smooth considering the high alcohol content of fortified wine. Pleasant to swish around and coat the palate with this Port. Rich fruit that shows a hint of maturity. One sip invites another. This might pair well with roast duck in fruit sauce (blackberry or plum sauce) or some cheeses. Also delightful as an after-dinner sipper with or without a fire in the fireplace. (I had it the first evening with baked chicken in a portobello mushroom sauce.) Believe me, I found this Port to be lip-smacking good and I generally prefer the tawny Ports over the red ones. Several days later, I can still recall the aroma of this Port. I was going to open a Grandfather "Port"from Australia and an "Old Jonesy" but will save them for another occasion since you are into Champagne now.
