Having tasted and reported on this LBV 3/4 times, one`s thoughts are quite well determined before even pulling the cork!! One knows what to expect although I have to add the last split I opened was slightly corked.
Opened 6 hours, good cork, 19.5% alc, not decanted even though there is sediment. Maybe tomorrow I`ll decant? I opened now, late, as Otto is feeling lonesome!!
Color. Bright reddish hue on rim, just a slight tinge of orange. Centre not quite to an opaque purple, big huge legs.
Nose. Christmas cake, figs and walnuts. Oak, some alcohol, plummy and enjoy the firm spice here. Black fruits as it airs.
Palate. This is ready to go! Soft tannins, not too spirity. Very good acidity and big concentration of ripe black fruits, blackberry, hint of cocoa. The cedar box is there again and all-round yum!! Sweet but love the balance and structure. Many regard this LBV as the one to look out for, but do not forget the `94 forumites. Will add some more comments in two days or so as it evolves.
Cost was $16 Cdn (half).
