WTN: '99 Galante, Rancho Galante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmel Valley

1999 Galante, Rancho Galante, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmel Valley ($20 U.S.). Alcohol level: 12.5%!!!! Galante is located somewhere east of Carmel Valley Village in the same vicinity as the Santa Lucia Highlands. We picked this up a few years ago when out there.

It is a Cab like they used to make in places like Napa Valley. It gives you a blast of black fruit including black current on the nose and upfront. You find a lovely complexity including plenty of Monterey dirt in the middle, and a really delightful finish at the end.

After popping this one recently we found out that they had a drove of it at their new tasting room in Carmel. Picked up another half case for $15 U.S. each! There may be some left. Much better than anything we’ve had from Chile at either price point.
