Blend of Cab Sauv 41%, 40% Merlot, 8% P Verdot, 6% Malbec, 5% Cab Franc. Owned by Hess Corp for quite a few years.
$25 Cdn, 14% alc, good natural cork, Lot A 301. Nick at Devines downtown thought " here Bob, this should fit in nicely with your theme".
Color. Inky black/opaque center, purple rim.
Nose. Big aromatics, black fruits...cassis, black cherry. No heat.
Palate. Initial entry thoughts were ripe, new world, medium tannins, pepper. Do not think I will find many clarets that taste like this? At least not at this early stage and sure this has legs for the long haul (maybe).
Long blackcurrant finish, cedar notes after a while, tobacco, cherry. Good structure in the mid-palate..."vanilla and plum "comment from across the table. Not much change on day 2, not really my style of wine as nothing tells me SA here. Blind, California or Argentine-Rolland.
