Purple, dense and big-bodied, full of grapey fruits and macerated bubble gum flavors. Tastes like pretend wine, and it's the kind of Beaujolais I hate. I could be convinced that in two or three years it will turn into a pleasant wine, but as it is right now, the fruit fly who flew into my glass almost immediately was most welcome to it. I opened something else.

Sorta on point, Sokol Blossom has a neat trick for getting rid of fruit flies that really works:

Mix:

A little bit of vinegar
A little bit of sweet white wine [any wine will do]
A little bit of water
Put it in a glass, add a drop of liquid soap, swirl around until you get some bubbles on top. Leave on the counter where your fruit flies are and they will be stuck to the soap in the glass in the morning!

We always have fresh fruit on the counter, and every once in a while, a squadron of fruit flies magically appears. The Sokol Blossom trap always clears them out over night.

Bob, I've done something similar but the flies aren't falling for it this time. Haven't used vinegar though. And I presume the soap is just to break surface tension?

I think the soap breaks the surface tension so the flies can't get out of the water -- they seem to walk on top of water without soap added.

The vinegar does attract them.

Hey, I was just thinking about this! Not only does the vinegar/soap addition work, setting a splitting late-season tomato next to the wine glass doubles the number of customers.
