On the way home from my annual VA check up yesterday (all went well) we stopped at one of the larger state stores looking for a BJ to go will burgrer last night. Found an 2005 Chateau de La Chaize Brouilly for $8.99. An '05? Well, I thought, I could always pour it down the drain and have a brew with burgers.
Surprise, It had survived in good style. Have seen some negative remarks on this one, but maybe it just needs some age. It gave nice red fruit including berries and cherries on the nose and upfront. There was more fruit in the reasonably complex middle with no sign of fading. There was a refreshing finish.
The ground meat was 80% and we just seasoned them and simply grilled over charcoal and mesquite smoke. With the Brouilly and some corn on the cob, it made for a great Thursday night.
