- 2005 Kanonkop Estate Kadette - South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch (5/28/2009)
Blind taste: 14% abv; 18,10€; Pinotage, Cab Sauv, Merlot but of unspecified proportions. The scent is rather full-on and ripe with some lactic, yogurt aromas, but it seemed like a young Bordeaux blend. Some pleasant lift, ripe, dark fruit, but it is savoury. Full bodied, good tannins, quite low acidity, but still refreshing and quite moreish. My guess: an adequate but not great Bordeaux Cru Bourgeois 2005.
I have previously enjoyed other Kanonkops (even their Pinotage!!!!), so perhaps this wasn't such a surprise.
