Rust en Vrede 2003 Estate, Stellenbosch
(60% Cabernet, 30% Shiraz, 10% Merlot)

On the nose cedar, vanilla, tobacco, chocolate, mint, pepper and tar. On the palate lots of ripe berry fruit, chocolate, mint, and herbs. Not much in the way of tannic backbone. Perhaps this should have been drunk sooner. I’d give this wine a “B”. Not sure of the price. This was a gift.

A quick look at Wine Searcher suggests that $35-$40 is more competitive.

Thanks. I forgot about that source. I always wonder about the prices quoted there. Would you agree that, if anything, Wine Searcher prices might be a tad on the high side?

I'm not sure if I'd rush out to spend $35-40 on this wine.

It really depends on which stores have the wines you are searching for. All Wine Searcher does is report what the stores have on their sites.

I've found both lousy and great prices with Wine Searcher.

To get the low prices, you have to subscribe for the Pro Version. If you use the free version you will often see it says there are more listed than displayed. These are the cheaper versions.
