A gift from my daughter who returned yesterday from a 17-week visit to South Africa.
Dark red colour with some brick on the rim.
Deep nose with stewed red ripe cherry fruit. Musty and a bit old fashioned style, but there is also an aromatic, flowery component of violets and roses.
Full bodied and intense with a good, refreshing acidity. then the tannins take a firm grip of your tongue and keeps it during the long, coarse and dusty after taste. Still, there is again that aromatic floweriness lingering in the background too. Rather pleasant wine, although a bit on the musty side. Perhaps it is the Pinotage in the blend that shines through or it is the sign of virus affected vines. The blend is Cab S, Pinotage, Merlot, Shiraz. In a blind tasting I might very well have placed it in South Italy as an Aglianico or maybe a Gaglioppo.

Cheers,
Anders
