- 2007 Beyerskloof Pinotage - South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch (9 May 2009)
I was struck by the light bright scarlet colour of this vintage compared with the darker opaque red of previous years. In the mouth the initial hit of sweet Pinotage fruit was quickly followed by a twist of tart fruit acidity, rather like a fresh berry.
Backing up the fruit was some dusty wood tannins and a wisp of smoke as if from a braai in a nearby property. Enjoyable inexpensive example by a master of the variety. Screwcapped, 14%abv (88 pts.)
