The '06 of this wine is one of my favourite QPR reds out there; I bought some a couple of years ago on a very very enthusiastic Garagiste email and then immediately ran out for more after I tasted it.
The '07 cost the same - $17 from Garagiste, and my first taste of it this evening delivered just the same way.
Clear dark red in colour (hey, I can see through it and it's not purple-blue!) with a gorgeous nose of cinnamon, pepper, red and dark fruits and some tarry notes. Elegant and medium bodied in the mouth with sweet berried flavours over spices, earth and a surprising briny/salty note that I've never come across before in Shiraz. There's a sense of real freshness and lightness to the fruit with plenty of acidity, grainy tannins in the back and a finish that lasts a good while. Awesome!
