Forgot to mention that its the final consumer price paid in Germany. 
It is not an example of "sophisticated", "top notch" wine, it is an everyday wine, but it is still one of the best deals here (Palatinate) in this price range.

One of the big issues with wine in the USA is that we don't have much in the way of drinkable wine under $10. California could make a killing if they producer pleasing quaffers in that price range.
